Underwriting Manager

We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated Underwriting Manager to join our team following a recent internal reorganization designed to enhance our operations. Reporting to the CEO, the Underwriting Manager will oversee the underwriting department; ensuring efficient operations, adherence to underwriting guidelines, and the achievement of business objectives. This role is pivotal in maintaining the quality and profitability of our insurance portfolio.

Key Responsibilities:
• Lead the underwriting team, providing guidance, coaching, training, and performance evaluations
• Develop, maintain and implement underwriting policies, procedures, and guidelines
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and company standards
• Collaborate with other departments to support business strategies
• Monitor market trends to identify opportunities and threats
• Prepare and present reports on underwriting performance and key metrics
• Foster a culture of continuous improvement within the team

Experience & Skills Required:
• 10 years P&C insurance industry experience (which includes minimum 5 years underwriting)
• 3 years in a leadership role (preferred)
• In-depth knowledge of P&C insurance products, underwriting principles, and regulations in Ontario
• Must have Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation (or actively working towards)
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
• Ability to quickly learn new software applications
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
• Proactive and positive approach to customer service
• Superior leadership, communication and interpersonal skills
• Strong analytical, decision-making and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
