THE ROLE:
Reporting to the Director, Senior Legal Counsel, the Insurance Risk Manager will be responsible for analyzing the REIT's insurance needs and ensuring an appropriate insurance program is maintained; managing claims; and acting as the subject matter expert in the REIT's insurance program.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
- Working with the REIT's broker, direct the purchase of property & casualty insurance programs, including but not limited to property; commercial general liability; boiler & machinery; builder's risk and wrap-up. As required, advise on specialty lines of insurance. Responsible for preparing and managing associated insurance program budget.
- Review, evaluate and complete insurance applications and renewals to determine policy and endorsement risks, insurance premiums and extent of available insurance coverages.
- Assess and identify business risks, audit existing insurance coverage, advise on appropriate insurance coverage to mitigate any risks not adequately covered and work with the REIT's insurance broker.
- Oversee the management of the Tenant Insurance program, in collaboration with the Operations and Construction teams to ensure compliance with tenant liability insurance requirements.
- Oversee the management of property and liability claims with the assistance of Operations team members and the REIT's independent insurance adjuster providing assistance and expertise, as required.
- Conducting policy and compliance audits, including liaising with internal business units.
- Advise on insurance language in the REIT's contracts.
- Provide support, manuals and training to the business teams managing insurance programs.
WHAT YOU BRING:
- Minimum 4 years of property & casualty insurance experience, ideally a large company in roles such as risk manager, underwriter, actuary, or in a similar capacity within the insurance industry.
- University degree, and industry professional membership in one or more: Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation with a concentration in underwriting and claims courses, or Canadian Risk Management (CRM) designation.

- Strong general computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
