Job Overview

The Casualty Claims Manager - Auto and Property Liability (Personal and Commercial Lines), contributes to Wawanesa’s goal of delivering an exceptional and consistent claims service experience by providing leadership to the claims team focusing on the achievement of departmental, regional and corporate key business goals and customer service standards.  
 
Job Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and technical guidance to the Casualty Claims operation, including Supervisors, Technical Specialists and Individual Contributors, focusing on Auto and Property (Commercial and Personal) Liability Claims 
  • Create and implement operational business goals and key productivity indicators, to align with Wawanesa’s strategic vision and growth
  • Successfully engage Employees in performance and development, in order to achieve business goals and results aligned to our strategic priorities
  • Ensure achievement and sustainment of claims processing standards within established guidelines to ensure goals and key productivity indicators are exceeded
  • Champion initiatives and respond to Employee resistance and acceptance, so that genuine understanding and commitment can occur, for continuous improvement of the operation
  • Motivate, coach and inspire the teams to provide exceptional Member experience during every interaction
  • Provide guidance and direction on complex files
  • Ensure the work environment is respectful, challenging and rewarding and Employees are reaching and exceeding their full potential and development goals
  • Identify and addresses training and developmental needs within the operation
  • Conduct employee performance management, talent recruitment and salary review process
  • Remain current of industry, regulatory and company changes or trends as they relate to the insurance industry and resultantly, implement required updates/improvements to the operation
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • 10+ years Property and Casualty Claims experience, including 5+ years of people leadership experience 
  • Second level leadership experience is an asset
  • Experience in handling and leading Commercial Property Liability Claims teams is required
  • Strong knowledge of personal and commercial liability wordings for auto and property policies
  • Post-secondary education is preferred
  • Obtained or working toward Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation and a desire to continue relevant industry education such as FCIP, CRM, etc. 
  • Excellent leadership skills with the ability to coach, guide, develop, positively motivate teams and sustain/create an engaged employee culture
  • Exceptional Member service skills including ability to show empathy and concern, while proactively and quickly resolving any escalations
  • Proven Broker collaboration experience 
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation and communication skills, with ability to communicate at the right level of audience and present information in convincing manner
  • Strong business acumen with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to recognize, identify and solution critical issues
  • Detail oriented with a critical degree of accuracy regarding data interpretation and efficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Highly proficient time management and organizational skills, with demonstrated ability to prioritize workload and deliver results in a continuous improvement environment
