Claims Technical Specialist - Catastrophe

Job Overview

Working under minimal supervision, the Claims Technical Specialist – Exec Office contributes to Wawanesa’s goal of delivering an exceptional and consistent claims service experience by analyzing business processes to support design and/or modification of operational policies and procedures to improve efficiency and effectiveness in the adjusting function.

 

Job Responsibilities 

  • Perform ongoing support and subject matter expertise on claims file handling, strategy, action planning and resolution
    • Lead and manage regional large loss process for line of business in conjunction with CTS in Regions
    • Chair large loss meetings and ensure appropriate escalation 
    • Liaise with Executive office stakeholders from product and underwriting in the development of new products providing claims expertise 
  • Recommend changes to documentation (business processes, user guides, and procedures) in order to facilitate user training as well as the integration of new processes within current operations 
  • Create technical handling guidelines as required 
  • Review and analyze national claims results from QA as provided by Exec office and support action planning and performance improvement for the regions with the regional leadership teams and CTS
  • Coordinate and provide instruction and/or training of regulatory requirements for compliance 
  • Mentor and develop team members through the sharing of knowledge and best practices 
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 10 years Property and Casualty industry experience 
  • Completed CIP or equivalent Property and Casualty industry designation 
  • College/University degree preferred 
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite 
  • Expert knowledge of coverage wordings, policy interpretation, case law, legislation, and insurance regulations 
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to conduct detailed analysis of information, and to select and implement best solutions in a timely manner 
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate at the right level for the audience and present information or arguments in a convincing manner 
  • Good negotiation skills, with the ability to present information in a convincing manner
  • Excellent teamwork skills, with the ability to ensure group objectives are met
