Vice President Finance

We currently have an outstanding opportunity as VP of Finance, where you will drive HTM’s strategic direction, manage and monitor financial forecasts and results, champion our mission, vision and values, and provide outstanding leadership that positively influences our community and family-focused organization.

The Role

The VP Finance is responsible for creating, implementing, maintaining and monitoring efficient and effective management frameworks for:  accounting, financial reporting, investment, lending, financial risk management and governance functions.

As VP of Finance you can expect to:

  • Work collaboratively with other executives to define the organization’s mission, vision and values.
  • Monitor information channels to understand new issues of importance to the organization, identify changes in the environment, engage in high-level critical thinking to identify links and discern critical issues, encourage alternative viewpoints, and balance business unit requirements with desired whole-of-organization outcomes.
  • Work collaboratively with other executives to create annual financial business plans.
  • Create annual budgets for capital and operating expenditures within defined areas of responsibility, or as specifically assigned.
  • Create, implement, maintain and monitor efficient and effective policies, standards, guidelines, methodologies, processes, and procedures to achieve organization goals and objectives for defined areas of responsibility, or as specifically assigned.
  • Identify, classify and coordinate activities, assigning duties and responsibilities and delegating authority to achieve organizational goals and objectives for defined areas of responsibility, or as specifically assigned.
  • Manage the Company’s financial resources and assets, recommend short and long-term goals and develop and implement strategies to meet them through close liaison with investment managers.
  • Compile budget information to forecast the income statement and contribute to the preparation of the annual budget.
  • Research, recommend, develop and implement new financial and accounting policies and procedures.
  • Implement, monitor and evaluate financial and accounting systems and controls, and collection procedures.
  • Perform payroll and benefit functions for over 40 individuals, ensuring accuracy and compliance with government regulations.
  • Direct the control of Company funds, cash flow and assets, accounts receivable and payable and review and approve expenditures to ensure legitimacy and accuracy.
  • Analyze and review financial statements and reports, and research and resolve variances or discrepancies.
  • Report quality data to meet the needs of third parties such as FSRA, OMIA and our actuaries.
  • Meet 3rd parties’ reporting requirements, such as the quarterly P&C1.

Skills and Qualifications

  • 10 to 15 years of progressive related experience; including prior management experience, preferably within financial services.
  • CPA (CA, CGA, or CMA) designation required.
  • Insurance experience is preferred.
  • IFRS technical expertise is an asset.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite. 
  • Exemplary communication and documentation skills.
  • Experience working with large data sets focusing on summarizing, extracting and reconciling data.
  • Ability to multi-task and work to deadlines.
