Job Overview

Working under minimal supervision, the Senior Loss Control Representative-Personal Insurance, supports the underwriting process by providing an overall opinion of insurance risks. Incumbents perform loss control site inspections of property and casualty exposures in order to outline and assess the risk to the company and to provide recommendations to mitigate loss potential.

 

Note: this role is responsible for the geographical territory of Saskatchewan and Manitoba

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Arranges and conducts thorough site inspections of properties in accordance with all relevant Guidelines
  • Presents inspection findings in detailed reports and discusses findings with appropriate parties to determine risk acceptability
  • Acts as a liaison between all parties involved, including insureds, prospects, underwriters, brokers, and others
  • Provides mentoring to underwriting employees and Level I and Level II Loss Control Representatives, as well as informal and formal consultative services and training to brokers and insureds
  • Interacts with our employees, brokers and insureds in a respectful and courteous manner
  • Keeps up to date with the latest building codes, bylaws and loss prevention techniques, including identifying educational opportunities and attending courses and seminars
  • Actively participates in industry loss prevention associations and liaises with loss control representatives from other companies and organizations
  • Performs other duties as required
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years in loss control or related industry experience
  • Successful completion of post-secondary education; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education (engineering, civil technology, science, industrial skills and trades, or similar program would be considered an asset)
  • Experience with replacement cost estimates and calculations would be considered and asset
  • Strong knowledge of building construction types and fire protection systems
  • Valid Driver’s license, ability to operate a motor vehicle, and a good driving record
  • Ability and willingness to travel (occasional overnight trips required)
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to relate and compare data from different sources
  • Excellent planning and organizing skills, with the ability to develop and prioritize effective plans
  • Excellent attention to detail, with the ability to produce comprehensive and correct work documents
  • Strong customer service skills, both over the phone and in person
  • Completed CIP or a Property and Casualty industry designation would be considered an asset
  • Bachelor’s degree in safety management, risk management, business management, or occupational/industrial safety and health would be considered an asset
