Claims Examiner (Temporary for 7 Months)

SMI is looking for a Temporary, full-time Claims Examiner to join our growing team. Reporting to the Supervisor, Claims & Administration, the successful candidate will be responsible for examining routine claim files, giving direction to staff and independent adjusters, confirming coverage and authorizing loss payments. The candidate will also answer routine inquiries from insureds, brokers and adjusters, adjust claims by telephone, and train and provide guidance to clerical staff.

The successful candidate will have completed their Grade 12 education, the successful completion of at least two (2) Insurance Institute courses along with a positive commitment toward completion of the CIP designation, demonstrated by completing two Institute courses per year, and a minimum of two years related insurance experience with one year as an Underwriter or a Claims Dispatcher. The candidate must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, the ability to note details and make accurate observations and sound decisions, as well as the ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships.

This unionized position offers an annual salary range of $49,796 - $65,235, a fun and inclusive work environment, professional development opportunities and the potential for further advancement within the company.
