Senior Leadership Opportunity - Manager Underwriting

Due to an upcoming retirement, we are searching for an Underwriting Manager on behalf of West Wawanosh Mutual Insurance (WWMIC).   Reporting directly to the CEO, you will be a key member of the senior leadership team and will be an integral part of the strategy that will spearhead the growth and future success of organization.   Leading a team of seven underwriters, you will play a key role in implementing the underwriting strategy and related policies, procedures, processes.   Your collaborative work ethic will build the bench strength of your underwriting team and will actively engage with other Department Leaders fostering a cohesive and positive working environment.

West Wawanosh Mutual Insurance (WWMIC) was formed in 1879, by a group of farmers who banded together when other insurance companies refused to help. They have a deep history of supporting their neighbours and a commitment to strong relationships and local connections. 

With just under 25 employees, WWMIC currently underwrites approximately $22.2 million in gross written premium and has a sizable surplus.  Located in beautiful Goderich, Ontario WWMIC offers insurance coverage for commercial, farm, residential, and automobiles to communities such as Blyth, Goderich, Seaforth, Lucknow, Kincardine, Hanover, Owen Sound, Bracebridge, and Parry Sound.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certified Insurance Professional (CIP) designation
  • Ten years of  experience working in the property and casualty insurance industry, in roles of increasing responsibility
  • Possess business acumen and the interpersonal skills necessary to build tri-lateral relationships, negotiating sound business deals with multiple constituencies: brokers/agents, customers, and key stakeholders
  • Proven ability to lead a cohesive, engaged and motivated team
  • Demonstrated passion for community
  • Ability to manage complex and conflicting priorities.
  • Previous experience with Cognition+ and IBS as well as the mutual insurance industry, is an asset
  • An understanding of reinsurance products available via Farm Mutual Reinsurance to WWMIC, is an asset
  • A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation is required

 

COMPENSATION       

Compensation will be commensurate with background and experience and will include a base salary and benefits.
