Senior Product Manager

About the role:
Manage the day-to-day operation of the Product team. Coach and develop Associates through complex issues and deliverables. Recognize and recommend operational improvements. Manage and lead complex projects for the development and launch of new and existing products. Manage day-to-day product related issues for the assigned product categories. This could include conducting research, recommending and implementing approved changes to product design as well as positioning and pricing, based on risk evaluation and profitability studies. 

You are great at:

  • Coaching and developing Associates to ensure efficiency of the department, satisfaction of customers and clients, and to maximize associate performance.
  • Ensuring effective use of resources and knowledge.
  • Conducting regular portfolio analysis/monitoring and implementing recommendations to products or pricing to ensure profitability for key strategic and complex projects.
  • Authoring and interpreting policy wording, liaising with all departments to develop or modify products and ensuring each product conforms to the structure and administration of all departments and their systems, including compliance with legal statutes.
  • Managing the product renewal process, ensuring renewals keep within established underwriting guidelines, limits and rates.
  • Focusing on loss ratio and profitability targets as well as effective and accurate usage of policy wordings, rates and procedures. Recommending changes when required to maintain or improve profitability.
  • Managing risk through proper data analytics, pricing, risk acceptance and product design.
  • Conducting market research and analysis to assist in establishing targets and benchmarks.
  • Researching and analyzing competitors’ current and new products while working closely with marketing department and senior management to ensure comprehensive research is conducted and considered before decisions are made regarding corporate marketing strategies.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with internal/external customers and stakeholders ensuring support is provided on all product related inquiries and projects.
  • Interacting with accounting and premium services staff to ensure ongoing reporting information is acquired on a timely basis for the purposes of effective monitoring and reporting to senior management.
  • Providing support to customers on administrative and policy related inquiries for new products and renewals. Providing necessary information to Marketing to ensure accuracy of collateral.
  • Solving problems related to product design, underwriting and implementation and consulting with senior management as required when the scope of the problem presents a significant risk or precedent to the company.
  • Assisting with the RFP process.
  • Handling complex escalated calls/situations.

What it takes:

  • College Degree/Diploma coupled with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in the insurance industry.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience working in a product development function.
  • A Chartered Insurance Professional Designation (CIP), Life Office Management Association (LOMA) or Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) Designation(s) is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage policies and standards for product and design and to develop productive working relationships with other departments across an organization.
  • Demonstrated experience in completing high quality research and analysis.
  • Demonstrated experience in Project Management.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment or initiative and function with minimal supervision.
  • Strong relationship building skills with internal and external parties.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively get results through influence.
  • Comfortable with providing coaching and constructive feedback to Associates.
