Senior Underwriter (Personal Lines)

Are you an experienced Personal Lines Underwriter? Are you looking to advance in your career in the insurance industry? SGI CANADA is currently searching for our next Senior Underwriter (Personal Lines) located in Toronto (Etobicoke or North York), however flexible remote work options are available!

In this role, you will establish and maintain relationships with assigned brokers and manage and grow a profitable book of personal auto and property business with emphasis on excellent service standards. You will examine the nature and degree of risk involved, negotiate conditions with our brokers and explain SGI CANADA’s underwriting approach and appetite to brokers. Our focus is on growing a profitable portfolio that you will be directly responsible for managing.  If you have demonstrated a progressive background in personal lines underwriting, you may just be what we are looking for!

SGI CANADA is aiming to be an agile organization that has clear and transparent communication paired with effective collaboration and accountability throughout the organization. We work with over 500 brokers from Ontario to British Columbia and sell a range of products. Developing our leaders will transform how we work with customers, partners and each other.

If you join our team, you’ll be working with over 2,000 colleagues to help us continue to grow, innovate and transform the industry. We’re a well-established insurance carrier that has a lot to offer its employees including some pretty great benefits, a flex spending account, special days off, training, continuous professional development, and valuable work life balance (just to name a few!).

Requirements

Candidates must bring the education and experience to succeed in this unique opportunity — after all, we’re counting on you.  We are looking for candidates who have a two-year diploma from an accredited post-secondary education institution in a relevant field such as Business and five to seven years’ experience in underwriting (personal lines preferred). Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation (completed or in progress) would be considered an asset. Alternative combinations of relevant education and experience may also be considered.
