Insurance Resource Officer

The Role
The Insurance Resource Officer is responsible for developing and maintaining insurance forms, wordings, and accompanying risk selection guidelines for use by OMIA member companies with a focus on farm and other commercial exposures.

Your love for research, problem solving, and analysis will be used each day as you discover risk appetite needs and gaps and develop solutions and recommendations for our member companies.

Your attention to detail and clear communication skills, as well as your sound technical knowledge, will help you create the documents and materials to support your findings.

You will work closely with the Manager of Insurance Services in maintaining the overall insurance forms and wording program and you’ll regularly interact with underwriters, marketers, claims professionals, loss prevention officers, distributors, systems vendors, and more. You’ll find independent work and collaboration in equal measure.

Work Experience

You have 5-10 years’ experience in a property casualty insurance role with a focus on (commercial) underwriting.

Skills, Knowledge and Personal Competencies

  • You know insurance – you have experience in, and a sound technical understanding of, the property/casualty insurance industry in Canada.
  • You’re a team player – your independent work serves a team as you meet project deadlines together.
  • You’re a comfortable juggler – you use your problem-solving skills and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • You’re a communicator – you pay great attention to detail and accuracy in both written and oral communication.
  • You’re professional – you take personal initiative and have a customer focus in mind.

Education

The following educational background or equivalent employment experience will be of benefit.

  • Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) (or working towards it)

Environment and Travel

Some travel will be required (up to 5 days annually). Occasional overnight travel may be required.  

You will join our team of 26 staff at our modern Leeds-certified office located close to the 401 in Cambridge. Our workplace includes a large fitness centre and outdoor walking paths. You will have a chance to participate in and get involved with initiatives including wellness programs, green team projects, and community and charitable events. *At present, the majority of OMIA staff are working remotely until we can safely return to the office.
