Intermediate Underwriter - Commercial Property

SGI CANADA is currently seeking a Commercial Property Underwriter. This position can be located in either our Edmonton office or in Calgary to help spearhead our newest branch.

SGI CANADA believes that effective collaboration happens by thinking beyond the role and division, being clear on decisions and accountabilities, building relationships while being open minded and respectful and driving action forward. We work with over 500 brokers from Ontario to British Columbia and sell a range of products. Building a culture of leadership development is front of mind and we believe that leaders are developed through all levels of the organization. Leadership culture development will transform how we work with customers, partners and each other. We're aiming for a culture that focuses on new strengths, balanced with some of what's always been important to our success.

The successful individual will be responsible for reviewing, evaluating and determining insurability for routine and moderately complex new and renewal applications for SGI CANADA (Alberta) commercial property insurance products. You will examine the nature and degree of risk involved and negotiate conditions, rates and premiums with brokers and process insurance policies.

If you join our team, you’ll be working with over 2,000 colleagues to help us continue to grow, innovate and transform the industry. We’re a well-established insurance carrier that has a lot to offer its employees including some pretty great benefits, a flex spending account, pension plan, paid vacation time, training, continuous professional development, career advancement opportunities and valuable work life balance (just to name a few).

Candidates must bring the education and experience to succeed in this unique opportunity — after all, we’re counting on you.  We are looking for candidates who have a 2-year diploma in Business or Risk Management. Candidates should have at least 6 CIP course and 5 years of Underwriting experience. Alternative combinations of relevant education and experience may also be considered.

Because when you start here, you want to stay here.  We offer a wide range of benefits and invest in career development to meet the needs of our employees. We embrace diversity, recognizing and celebrating our differences and our similarities.  With careers as diverse as our employees, join our caring culture of employee empowerment within a great community of people.
