The Financial Analyst position is responsible for reinsurance accounting including monitoring reinsurance agreements, processing reinsurance settlements and reconciling reinsurance accounts. This role is also responsible for day-to-day cash operations including verifying, monitoring daily cash flow, handling deposits and bank reconciliations. This role also involved in a variety of Financial Close activities including intercompany settlements, journal entry preparation, reconciling and analyzing general ledger accounts and developing reports for internal and external parties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitor and maintain inventory of reinsurance contracts, LOC and trust accounts
  • Track reinsurance claims, prepare monthly reinsurance premium statements and settle all facultative and treaties’ premiums and claims with reinsurers and reinsurance brokers
  • Prepare monthly reinsurance reports and other Schedule F reporting
  • Analyze reinsurance costs, and provide variance analysis against plan and prior year
  • Reconcile all reinsurance receivable and payable accounts
  • Perform cash operations including verifying and monitoring daily cash flow, handing weekly deposits and preparing all bank account reconciliations
  • Monitor monthly cross charges and prepare intercompany settlement
  • Analyze underwriting and acquisition expenses and compare results to prior year, budget, forecast or  trend analysis to provide commentary on variances
  • Participate in projects as required, including data analysis and documentation
  • Respond to ad hoc internal or reinsurer requests
  • Acts as a backup to other members of Finance team

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, finance, or equivalent
  • Completion, or working towards a professional recognized accounting designation
  • Minimum 2 years of professional experience required. P&C insurance experience an asset
  • Detail oriented with strong organizational skills and capable of managing multiple projects effectively
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills coupled with a strong desire to learn and grow
  • Must be results oriented with the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with internal staff and external business partners
  • Advanced MS Office skills, particularly MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • MS Access & VBA skills are an asset
