About the position:

Reporting to the Manager, Claims, the Intermediate Adjuster - Bodily Injury is responsible for oversight and handling of automobile, long haul trucking, motorcycle, and recreational vehicle bodily injury claims. The claims are of varying complexity and the successful candidate will have a dynamic personality and the ability to excel in a high performance environment. The Intermediate Adjuster – Bodily Injury ensures claims are properly investigated, evaluated, and resolved in a timely manner.

What you will be responsible for:

  • Provide oversight of external adjusters on outsourced claims
  • Investigate, evaluate, negotiate personal/commercial lines claims of moderate to high complexity
  • Manage challenging coverage claims with tact and professionalism
  • Timely, accurate reserving in line with Corporate protocols and guidelines
  • Maintain control over expenses through pro-active handling techniques
  • Direct vendor partners as necessary
  • Provide high quality customer experience to all stakeholders
  • Collaborate effectively with peers/other departments
  • Conduct technical audits to monitor quality, activity, reserving and expenses
  • Obtain approval from Manager on claims above authority
  • Remain up-to-date on industry trends and case law
  • Manage claims in litigation, participate in mediations, pre-trials and settlement conferences
  • Occasional travel is required
  • Perform other tasks and duties as assigned by the Manager

The skills and experiences that you possess:

  • Post-secondary education or equivalent experience
  • CIP or working towards designation
  • Minimum of 5 years experience handling casualty claims required
  • Strong organizational; decision making and problem solving skillset
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Demonstrated negotiation skills
  • Adaptability and willingness to learn
  • Ability to understand insurance contracts in various jurisdictions
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of claims settlement, policy wording, fraud investigations and coverage issues
  • Good time management skills
  • Ability to collaborate in a team environment; prioritize and multi-task
  • Ability to cross-reference information with attention to detail
  • Strong general computer knowledge required
