The Sovereign General Insurance Company is looking for a dynamic individual to join our Commercial Underwriting Team in Toronto.  While the successful candidate will be adept at analyzing risks and providing creative solutions to brokers, the ability to influence and inspire others through their enthusiasm and provide exceptional customer service to our broker force is key.  The Client Portfolio includes a range of files with some larger files and various files of increased technical complexity.

What you’re responsible for:

  • Promoting, underwriting and quoting new business, renewals and endorsements in accordance with the company’s underwriting philosophy, rating, loss ratio objectives, service standards and authority levels.
  • Negotiating coverage and rates with our broker partners and reinsurers.
  • Completing necessary documentation in support of the business you handle.
  • Developing and maintaining positive constructive relationships with brokers.
  • Developing a team-oriented approach to meeting corporate and department goals and objectives; including written premium and profitability objectives.

  • You may provide support to clients who are experiencing a personal or financial loss. A high degree of confidentiality and discretion is required.
  • You handle sensitive information while maintaining confidentiality.
  • You use strong judgement and interpersonal skills to build relationships internally and work effectively with people at all levels of the organization.

To join our team:

  • Minimum of 5 years of Commercial Underwriting experience.
  • Has, or is working towards, obtaining a Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation.
  • Work towards getting a Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation. (Optional)
