Technical Underwriting Assistant, Long Haul Trucking

Reporting to the Supervisor, the Technical Underwriting Assistant is responsible for providing technical and administrative support in the framework of the underwriting folders that have been assigned in accordance with guidelines and operational objectives for data quality and service levels.

Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities:

  • Provide effective support on technical and administrative and office tasks, as part of the assigned duties;
  • Prepare pre-work up for LHT quotes on behalf of underwriters;
  • Prepare policies according to the underwriters' quotation for review by the underwriter;
  • Issue all terminations and reinstatements on a timely and accurate basis;
  • Prepare files for underwriting review and attach all documentation required for underwriting.
  • Communicate with underwriters and brokers to verify and validate all information and obtain the necessary information that will be added to the underwriting client files;
  • Review and respond to all broker requests on a timely basis;
  • Identify problematic issues that may affect service and/or quality and report them to the Supervisor;
  • Review certificates, losses and other correspondence and refer to underwriter where necessary;
  • Provide service as per best practices of the company consistent with national standards and policies;
  • Any other duties as delegated and assigned by Supervisor

Education & Experience

  • Five years of Underwriting Assistant experience in Long Haul Trucking preferred;
  • Actively working toward obtaining CIP designation preferred;
  • Skilled in Excel, Word and Outlook;
  • Ability to adapt in a paper free environment including email software and internet;
  • Excellent written and verbal skills;
  • Ability to work well under pressure and within deadlines in a growing and evolving organization;
  • Ability to communicate well (oral and written);
  • Ability to organize work, set priorities and adapt to peak periods;
  • Ability to structure, interpret and use data and information from various sources;
  • Ability to identify and understand customer needs;
  • Ability to interpret and apply the underwriting  guidelines (procedures and policy manuals);
  • Ability to evaluate simple problems and design solutions in accordance with the underwriting guidelines;
  • Ability to work in a team environment using sound interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision;
  • Ability to take direction;
  • Attention to detail and accuracy;
  • Focus on objectives and results;
