POSITION DETAILS

As an Underwriter, you will work in collaboration with the Production team to strategize, develop and market new and renewal business for our clients. We are seeking a self-starter with a solid understanding of the insurance marketplace to join our Burnaby location in a regular full time position.

Our Burnaby Still Creek head office location is centrally located near Brentwood Town Centre and Gilmore station in the Willingdon Business Park.   This location is skytrain accessible with many shops, restaurants and other amenities nearby.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Underwrite & negotiate terms for new and renewal business, cancellations and endorsements with insurance carriers
  • Reviews the expiry lists in advance to determine market needs and ensures there are no gaps in coverage for our clients
  • Gathers and organizes the information provided by Account Executives, Producers, internet & other sources to facilitate renewal and new submissions 
  • Tracks & maintains a log of Insurers submission responses
  • Review & monitor figures, commitments, earthquake limits and loss ratios

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED?

The Underwriter is an integral part of the team as they build and maintain strong working relationships with colleagues and insurance carriers. The successful candidate will possess the following characteristics:

  • Strong technical knowledge and experience working with and interpreting insurance policies
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Extremely detail oriented with a high level of accuracy
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment
  • Ability to prioritize and work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with changing priorities

REQUIREMENTS

  • Level 2 General Insurance License (or willing to obtain)
  • Post-secondary education or equivalent work experience
  • 5 years of Commercial Lines experience
  • Those working towards or possess the CAIB, CIP, FCIP or CRM designations preferred
  • Previous marketing and production experience preferred
  • Experience with EPIC broker management system is an asset
