Compliance Resource Officer

Are you looking for a challenging, non-traditional role in compliance?

The Ontario Mutual Insurance Association (OMIA) is looking for a hardworking professional with a background in compliance and corporate risk management in a property casualty insurance environment. You will work closely with farm mutuals across the province in developing corporate, market conduct, and governance compliance tools and processes in a friendly, collaborative relationship.

You will take the lead in identifying, researching, developing, recommending and supporting initiatives to meet a broad spectrum of statutory and regulatory compliance needs for our member companies. 

As an example, in the past year OMIA’s Compliance Resource Officer has worked with subject matter experts to build programs addressing compliance on:

  • Changes to privacy legislation
  • Cyber risk assessment surveys and breach reporting and response
  • Annual property casualty market conduct reporting
  • Updating Ontario Auto compliance tools and processes
  • Creating a corporate compliance calendar
  • Approaches to internal audits
  • Tools and processes for risk identification, assessment, and quantification

Qualifications:

  • You understand the property casualty insurance business
  • You have a minimum of five years of relevant experience
  • You have played an important role in organizational compliance projects
  • You can read, interpret, and analyze statutes, regulations, and guidelines
  • You can write clear accurate policies, information bulletins, and reference material
  • You can present information sessions and lead discussion on compliance related topics
  • You can read financial statements and understand reporting requirements.
  • You have experience with risk identification and quantification and enterprise risk management concepts
  • You can lead teams and work well with groups
  • You are a good listener and value the opinion and experience of others
  • You are a self-starter, can work independently and meet deadlines
  • You will represent OMIA on industry advisory and consultation groups
  • You can travel in Canada, particularly Southwestern Ontario

In addition, you probably have:

  • A degree, diploma, or certificate in a business-related discipline and/or a professional certification in insurance, risk management, or accounting
