Claims Supervisor, SIU

We are currently seeking a Claims Supervisor, SIU (Special Investigations Unit) to join our growing team. 

The Claims Supervisor, SIU contributes to Wawanesa's goal of delivering an exceptional Counter Fraud program to protect our insureds by providing leadership to the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), focusing on the achievement of key business goals, while protecting the interests of the company and its insureds. 

The ideal candidate for this role, comes with a background in both Auto and Property investigations, is forward thinking, and embraces emerging technology. An experienced leader, who will provide support and guidance to the team, enhancing their ability to detect and deter fraud. 

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversees and coaches a Canada wide team to ensure the work environment is respectful, challenging and rewarding and employees are maximized to their full potential while contributing to the achievement of Wawanesa's goals.
  • Champions company initiatives that will lead to increased fraud detection across the country.
  • Ensures assigned cases are investigated and reported back to the appropriate business unit, claims, underwriting or management.
  • Evaluates the SIU investigative operations, effectiveness of operating procedures, investigator performance and unit effectiveness. Provides recommendations for enhancement, changes corrections or future conditions.
  • Assists in the identification of training needs and provides coaching through one-on-one observations and review of files. 
  • Works with other departments within the company to develop new investigative leads by analyzing data trends and developing new reports and queries to identify instances of potential fraud, waste and abuse.
  • Conducts monthly quality assurance file reviews 
  • Provides direction and leadership in areas such as: investigation, policy interpretation, claims, resolution, and counter fraud strategies. 
  • Determines patterns of fraud and actions required to deter it. 
  • Establishes and maintains budget for the team.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 5 years insurance adjusting experience, with at least 2+ years experience supervising an Investigation Unit 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify relationships, problems and issues
  • Strong organization skills with the ability to handle multiple concurrent assignments in a timely manner
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate at the right level of complexity for the audience
  • Adaptable to a changing environment, with the ability to champion change while motivating and influencing others.
  • Willing and able to travel. 
  • Strong working knowledge of residential and commercial construction and automobile repair and restoration would be a definite asset.  
  • Post-secondary degree in Criminology is a definite asset
