Position: Personal Lines/Auto Underwriter

Location: Cobourg, Ontario

HTM Insurance currently has an exciting opportunity for a personal lines/auto underwriter to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for working with our underwriters, inspectors and our sales force to grow a profitable personal lines/auto portfolio.

Key Responsibilities 

The core responsibilities of the underwriter are; determining the acceptability of risks, providing quotes, suggesting new coverages, and keeping a positive relationship with HTM' sales force. This role deals with personal lines of business both auto and property.

Position Responsibilities

  • Provide quotes on new and existing files, complete prospect notes and binds coverage
  • Verify information on applications, assess risk and communicate rates and conditions to Brokers
  • Review completed inspection documents, including examining photos, cost estimators and questionnaires to determine that the physical condition of the buildings qualify for the package requested
  • Check coverage for current wordings, liaise with Broker to gather current information related to file renewals
  • Some data entry of policy information and endorsements, determine riders, class codes and complete renewal process
  • Determine need for physical risk inspections and order an inspection if required
  • Determine underwriting acceptability, coverage and rates, including calculation of premium and process changes for endorsements

 Requirements

  • Post-secondary education
  • A minimum of 5 years of insurance experience
  • Willing to take continuing education
  • CIP or equivalent designation an asset and will be a requirement to work towards
  • CRM designations considered an asset
  • Ease in using software such as Word or Excel and learning a custom insurance software program
