Senior Underwriting Excellence Analyst -  Personal Insurance

Working under general supervision, this job is a pivotal role in the creation, maintenance and utilization of best in class practices within the Personal Insurance underwriting function to drive a high-performance culture and strong financial results. The successful candidate will work with the Personal Insurance underwriting departments across Canada to support the Director, Personal Underwriting Excellence in ensuring that the underwriting guidelines, product line guides, role definitions, and strategies are complied with.  This support will involve participation in file reviews and analysis of top improvement opportunities and trends. This role is an agent of change and continuous improvement, challenging the status quo and thinking creatively to identify issues and resolve challenges.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participate in underwriting initiatives with underwriting leaders across our Canadian regions and develop action plans to drive financial results and efficiencies.
  • Participate in identifying and planning Personal Insurance underwriting training to support profit and growth goals.
  • Review underwriting exception requests; providing a recommended course of action aligned with the corporate risk appetite framework.
  • Participate in the development and maintenance of underwriting processes and Key Performance Indicators in collaboration with the company’s Operational Excellence team.
  • Support the Director, Personal Underwriting Excellence in the development of a compliance review process and strategy to apply to Personal Insurance underwriting across Canada.
  • Champion change and support business processes to achieve superior customer service.
  • Maintains awareness of industry trends and changes to ensure Wawanesa is prepared to respond in a manner consistent with our vision and values.
  • Collaborate with Personal Insurance leadership and Underwriting Managers in regional offices by challenging ineffective and inefficient processes and identifying continuous improvement opportunities including exceptional file handling practices and capabilities.
  • Review and analyze performance reports and create monthly monitoring reports and present to Director, Personal Underwriting Excellence.
  • Maintain, track, and ensure timely response to various operational reporting deadlines as assigned.
  • Promotes the Company's Code of Conduct and values, and models behaviors that align to these principles
  • Perform other duties as assigned

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 5 years Property and Casualty industry experience and/or experience with conducting compliance reviews. 
  • Post-secondary education and/or completion of a Property and Casualty industry designation.
  • Prior quality assurance or compliance experience would be an asset.
  • Technical competence in auto and property underwriting with a solid understanding and application of best practices in personal insurance.
  • Ability to use critical thinking, logic, critical reasoning and good judgement to get to the root of issues.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to conduct detailed analysis of information and to select and implement best solutions in a timely manner.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate at the right level for the audience and present information or arguments in a convincing manner.
  • Strong planning and organizing skills, with the ability to develop and prioritize effective plans that define activities, resources and timelines.
  • Strong organization skills with the ability to prioritize and reprioritize appropriately.
  • Ability to engage in all interactions with a positive outcome in mind.
  • Comfortable with evolving processes and ambiguity.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify relationships, problems and issues.
  • Independent and self-directed with ability to work well within a virtual team setting and commit to team goals.
  • Computer proficiency in Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Proficiency in MicroStrategy would be considered an asset.
  • Ability and willingness to travel.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
