Catastrophe Adjuster

JOB SUMMARY

Working under minimal supervision, the Catastrophe Adjuster will respond to catastrophe events by traveling to impacted regions to provide initial adjusting, as well as inspection and estimation of both residential and commercial catastrophe property losses using estimating software. The Catastrophe Adjuster will have the ability to travel across Canada, for potentially extensive periods of time.  

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Inspect, evaluate and write property estimates pertaining to physical damage to property
  • Maintain excellent knowledge and understanding of policy coverage, determining coverage and explaining coverages to insureds
  • Communicate with contractors, adjusters and insureds to ensure accuracy and completeness of estimates
  • Keep accurate notes/documentation, ensuring the system of record is up to date and comprehensive
  • Provide feedback on a timely basis to ensure all required parties are informed 
  • Attend technical upgrading courses and keep abreast of industry advancements such as property repair procedures and materials
  • Recognize and provide recommendations as to when experts such as engineers and contents evaluation firms are required
  • Perform other duties as required

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3 years’ experience property field adjusting, with strong knowledge and experience in the creation/analysis of property repair estimates (Xactware)
  • Valid Driver’s license, with satisfactory driving record
  • Ability to travel within Canada on short notice, potentially for extensive periods of time
  • Ability to work overtime hours in the case of a catastrophic event
  • Strong ability to adapt to new and changing situations, requirements, and priorities
  • Strong teamwork skills with the ability to facilitate collaboration
  • Solid communication skills with the ability to write in a clear and concise manner and communicate at the right level for the audience
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi task effectively and prioritize appropriately
  • Strong negotiation and settlement skills
  • Strong client service orientation, with the ability to proactively anticipate needs and to act as an advisor
