JOB SUMMARY

The Claims Manager, Casualty contributes to Wawanesa’s goal of delivering an exceptional and consistent claims service experience by providing leadership to the claims team focusing on the achievement of departmental, regional and corporate key business goals and customer service standards. 
As the Claims Manager, Casualty you will provide oversight of the casualty claims management, driving performance and exception customer experience through effective claims management activities.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide leadership, mentorship and development to the claims team while promoting and supporting a performance-based culture
  • Accountable for monitoring the efficient and effective performance of employees to ensure claim service levels and customer service goals are achieved
  • Identify and addresses training and developmental needs within the department, in order to ensure business and development goals are met
  • Provide oversight on claims management, ensuring that any investigation, liability determination, settlement negotiations, reserve establishment, quantum assessment, and coverage interpretation are appropriately managed, while driving performance to meet or exceed department productivity targets
  • Coordinate resources with other functions such as QA, SIU, Recoveries, Salvage, Claims Litigation, Complex claims and Claims Service Team
  • Provide oversight and quality assurance on outsourced activities by vendors and service providers
  • Work with Human Resources to ensure claims department is adequately resourced
  • Ensure compliance with corporate reporting standards
  • Conduct QA file reviews and implements Claims Performance recommendations
  • Participate in the annual employee performance management and salary review process
  • Submit annual department budget and monitor variances
  • Maintain positive relationships with local industry and regulatory bodies
  • Remain up-to-date with changes to legislation and trends in the insurance industry

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 10+ years Casualty industry experience, including 2+ years of people management experience
  • College Diploma or University Degree (experience may substitute for education)
  • Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) Designation (or equivalent Property and Casualty industry designation) and a desire to continue relevant industry educational development
  • Effective customer service skills including empathy and concern for our customers
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
  • Excellent investigative and analytical skills
  • Highly proficient time management and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize work in a fast paced, changing environment
  • Excellent knowledge of policy wordings all lines of business, corporate guidelines, policies and procedures
  • Exceptional advanced negotiation skills
