Reporting to the Director of Risk Management you will utilize industry best practices to support the City of Edmonton’s operations and facilitate integration with the City’s Enterprise Risk Management Framework. The Risk Management Coordinator is responsible and accountable for providing corporate leadership by assisting client departments with risk assessment and loss control in the City of Edmonton’s best interest.

As the Risk Management Coordinator you will manage, plan, organize and implement the Corporation’s risk management operations through the effective management of professional and technical staff. You will provide leadership to the risk management team, ensuring quality customer service is provided in a competent, courteous and timely manner.

Reporting to the Director of Risk Management, your responsibilities will include:

  • Build organizational capacity and high performing team

  • Business planning, performance management & financial stewardship to ensure effective delivery of services

  • Support development of City's risk financing strategies, insurance program placement decisions (e.g. insurer, retention level, reserve) and guarantees (e.g. bonds, letters of credit)

  • Analyze and communicate claims data & loss trends to City’s departments for proactive risk management & benchmarking decisions.  Work with City’s departments to understand and meet their service needs

  • Oversee quality control of risk and claims functions, develop training tools and resources for adjusters, analysts, and support staff to ensure consistent and reliable decisions

  • Manage, develop policies and procedures to improve effectiveness and efficiency

  • Support procurement and management of external contracts and resources

  • Respond to complex risk and contract inquiries

  • Ensure Effectiveness of the Claims and Risk Management systems, including system investment decisions to ensure business needs are met

Qualifications :

  • A Bachelor of Commerce or a related discipline

  • Fellow Chartered Insurance Professional (FCIP) or Fellow in Risk Management (FRM) is required.  Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) and/or Risk Management Designation (CRM) may be considered in place of one or both Fellowships, depending on the depth and length of experience.

  • Minimum of 7 years progressively responsible experience in managing technical staff, and managing risks in a large complex organization. Knowledge in claims adjusting, litigation and alternative dispute resolution is required

  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, presentation and communication skills, both written and verbal

  • Excellent experience and knowledge of Microsoft Office, Google Applications; PeopleSoft, SAP and iVOS experience an asset

  • Ability to work within a complex, changing environment with competing priorities is required

  • Demonstrated ability to resolve issues and respond to concerns/complaints, maintain accurate records and statistics, and establish and maintain effective working relationships

Salary Range: $84,597.070 - $120,852.960 (Annually)
