Underwriter, Commercial Lines

Reporting to the Vice President, Commercial Lines, the Intermediate Underwriter, Commercial Lines, underwrites and prices new business applications, endorsements and renewals on Commercial Property and Liability policies within set binding authority to grow and maintain a profitable portfolio.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • Maintain in-force policies and ensure all policies are issued within service standards with the appropriate wordings, schedules, and certificates attached
  • Develop and maintain excellent working relationship with brokers by providing exceptional customer service
  • Work collaboratively with internal clients and team members to resolve broker, claims, pricing and accounting issues
  • Manage and achieve excellent working relationship with brokers
  • Provide exceptional customer service by answering telephone inquiries, making outgoing calls, respond to emails and/or faxes as may be required
  • Track and produce daily, weekly and monthly production activity reports
  • Assist in Monthly Business Activity Reporting
  • Willingness to travel as some travel may be required
  • Other duties as assigned

Education & Experience

  • College or University education in a related field is required
  • CIP is required and pursuing FCIP or CRM designation
  • A minimum of three to five (3 – 5) years experience in Commercial Lines Underwriting
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with product development and developing underwriting guidelines
  • Strong product knowledge and a thorough understanding of insurance policy wordings and the ability to make sound business decisions based on those wordings
  • Ability to effectively set priorities to meet deadlines
