The MIABC is looking for an energetic, motivated, and career-minded insurance professional to join our growing Insurance Services department. We are a member-owned non-profit insurance reciprocal that provides liability coverage to over 170 local governments in British Columbia, and property and ancillary coverage to over half of our members.
Responsibilities Include:
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with various insurance markets to ensure members receive the best coverage and competitive pricing.
- Gather information and provide quotes for members' property and ancillary insurance needs.
- Underwrite property coverage and market ancillary coverages.
- Prepare and bind new and renewal policy coverages.
- Assist in corresponding with reinsurers to obtain facultative coverage as needed.
- Support members in reporting ancillary claims and act as an advocate if required.
- Identify, develop, and manage existing and new insurance products and programs.
- Assist the Insurance Services team in preparing quotes and requests for proposals for MIABC members and prospective members.
- Answer member queries on coverage needs, limits, policy additions, wording, and insurance-related contract provisions, and recommend coverage as necessary.
- Review documentation (certificates, invoices, etc.) prepared by the Insurance Services Administrator and prepare documentation during absences and peak periods.
- Collaborate with the Claims team to ensure progress on property claims and provide updates to members as required.
- Assist the Insurance Services team with presentation preparations.
- Nurture strong working relationships with underwriters, brokers, other service providers, and members.
- Provide backup support to other members of the Insurance Services team during absences.
- Stay updated on changes in the insurance industry, including new products, by attending continuing education seminars, reading insurance publications, and liaising with industry personnel.
- Follow MIABC service standards, policies, and procedures.
- Cooperate and collaborate with other employees and members in a spirit of teamwork and collegiality.
- Promote and represent the MIABC as a professional association by visiting members, presenting education sessions, and attending various industry events.
- Participate in MIABC’s internal Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) program.
- Perform other miscellaneous duties and special projects as assigned.

Position Requirements/Qualifications:
- Level 2 BC Insurance License mandatory, Level 3 License an asset.
- Insurance designation (CAIB, CIP, CRM) preferred.
- Minimum 7 years of commercial insurance or underwriting experience.
- Broad knowledge of all classes of insurance for local governments.
- Knowledge of cyber and construction insurance is an asset.
- Good technical insurance knowledge for interpretation and development of policy language.
- Strong negotiation skills.
- Professional interpersonal and oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Analytical skills. Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 programs (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.).
