Intermediate Adjuster (Bodily Injury)

Location: Edmonton. This role is eligible for hybrid – this means you’ll have the flexibility of working from home and in the office (in Edmonton), on a scheduled rotation once training requirements have been met. Until then, the successful incumbent will be expected to work on-site, full-time.  

​Pay Range: $64,173 - $86,619

General Accountability

The successful candidate will be responsible for investigating, negotiating and settling moderately complex automobile bodily injury claims in accordance with the prescribed authority and identifies where the personal injury cap would apply. Majority of files are settled via the telephone. In this role you will direct and monitor the investigation, negotiation and/or settlement of claims through the use of independent adjusters when necessary.

Key Accountabilities

Claims Adjusting

  • Investigates bodily injury claims.
  • Evaluates claims and sets up adequate reserves.
  • Analyzes information gathered, determines coverage and assesses liability and damages.
  • Negotiates with claimants and lawyers and settles within authority limits.
  • Maintains effective communication with experts, management and internal and external counsel.
  • Attends mediations, settlement conferences and pre-trials.
  • Participates in the dispute resolution process, arbitrations and legal proceedings.
  • Directs and monitors the investigation, negotiation and/or settlement of claims through the use of independent adjusters (when necessary due to the nature of the claim).
  • Acts as a resource and provides support, guidance, advice and direction to less senior staff.

Education and Experience

  • A two-year diploma from an accredited post-secondary education institution in a relevant field of study such as Business.
  • 3 - 5 years’ experience adjudicating claims of varying complexity including work with commercial losses.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of the principles and practice of insurance, claims policies and procedures, and automobile insurance products.
  • Knowledge of Minor Injury Regulation, Fatal Accidents Act. 
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of the legal process as it relates to bodily injury claims.
  • Ability to quantify loss based on medical documentation and case law research
