What You’ll Do:
The Personal Lines Property & Casualty Underwriting Manager is responsible for detailed underwriting, risk analysis and accurate premium calculations in alignment with the company’s risk appetite. The individual is responsible for responding to product and procedural questions from colleagues and brokers, provide guidance on complex new business, participate in post-loss underwriting reviews and collaborate with claims on our service philosophies. The Personal Lines Property & Casualty Underwriting Manager collaborates with cross-functional teams and behaviours are modelled in a manner consistent with company values.
Responsibilities:
- Accept, reject, endorse, renew or cancel contracts in accordance with company underwriting policies, procedures, service standards, applicable laws and regulations based on assigned authority levels.
- Process new applications, endorsements, renewals, cancellations, declines and quotes.
- Supporting leadership on Home and Auto Personal Lines Underwriting Teams in the Branch (in-office, remote and hybrid).
- Championing training, coaching and change management for new hires and existing team members.
- Supporting collaborations with Head Office and other branches on underwriting products, risk appetite and pricing.
- Underwriting in alignment with company policies, procedures, service standards, applicable laws and regulations.
- Researching and determining appropriate rates, applying discounts / surcharges and accurately calculating premiums.
- Requesting inspections in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Preparing related correspondences and maintaining supporting documentation as required.
- Participating in post-loss underwriting reviews and reviews on claim files referred.
Requirements:
- Candidates must reside in Canada and be authorized to work in Canada.
- Minimum of ten years experience with personal lines underwriting or related experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
- Consistency of applying accuracy, thoroughness and attention to detail approaches.
- Ability to work independently and demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment is required.
- Adaptable mind-set is required.
- Ability to train and mentor team members.
- A continuous improvement mindset is preferred.
- CIP designation is required (or equivalency).
- CRM or FCIP designation is preferred.
- Bachelor’s Degree or post-secondary certificate is required (or an equivalent of industry experience)
