The Opportunity

The Senior Internal Auditor supports the achievement of corporate strategic priorities by providing independent and risk-based assurance throughout the organization. They will play a key role in planning, executing and reporting on internal audits across various departments within the company. They will be responsible for mentoring internal audit staff, ensuring adherence to professional auditing standards and providing valuable insights and recommendations to improve the company’s internal controls and risk management practices. The Senior Internal Auditor encourages the development and maintenance of a strong governance mindset throughout the company.

How You Will Create An Impact

Participate in the development of the annual internal audit plan, aligning audit activities with the company’s overall risk management strategy.
Effectively plan and execute internal audits while building positive relationships with business partners.
Clearly and concisely document test steps, walkthroughs, testing results and findings.
Obtain buy-in from business partners to ensure alignment with audit methodology and scope.
Timely identification and escalation of risks to the audit plan and significant audit findings.
Provide insightful recommendations for process improvement and obtain stakeholder commitment to timely action plans.
Timely maintenance of issue tracking and management reporting tools.
Provide and assist in value-add reporting to management and the Audit and Risk Committee.
Demonstrate commitment to a governance mindset and promote the same throughout the organization.
Provide valuable insight to business partners while maintaining appropriate independence.
Mentor internal audit team, providing coaching and guidance to develop their technical and professional skills.

What You Will Bring

Post-Secondary Education in a related field.
Completion of professional accounting/auditing designation (CPA, CISA, CIA) is an asset.
Completion of CIP/FCIP designation is considered an asset.
Strong understanding of audit mindset, principles and techniques.
Experience in guideline development and policy wording interpretation.
Thorough knowledge in internal auditing, with a proven track record of leading and managing internal audit projects gained through a minimum of 5 years of experience.
Thorough knowledge of property, farm, automobile and/or commercial insurance gained through a minimum of 5 years of industry experience.
Computer program knowledge includes Microsoft Office Products, Adobe Suite Professional, Policy Administration Systems, web-based tools and insurance databases.
Sound ethics and confidentiality with strong customer service skills.
Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop a team.
Demonstrated ability to respect and maintain confidentiality of information.
Strong attention to detail and ability to self-review.
Maintain a professional work ethic, adhering to the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) Standards and Code of Ethics.
