Commercial Insurance Broker

BMS is a specialist Insurance Brokerage and we are hiring a Commercial Insurance Broker to join our award-winning team.  You will work in a fast-paced and creative work environment and be part of a growing and energetic group of professionals. As a Broker you will be exposed to all aspects of our Canadian operation, and will work as part of our Ottawa-based team to manage a variety of our commercial clients and continue to grow this area of our business, as well as manage client and market relationships.  We are looking for an outgoing, organized, resourceful, high-performer who has attention to detail, strong written and verbal communication skills, and who embraces our culture and collaborative team approach.

Responsibilities

You will be working as part of our wider broking team and will have the following roles and responsibilities:

  • Manage placement of designated risks, including negotiation with insurers, production of documentation to assist placement and maintenance throughout the risk life cycle (Underwriting Submissions, Wordings, Endorsements)
  • Maintain and enhance knowledge of the insurance marketplace, trends and cycles in order to capitalise on market opportunities
  • Develop and manage client relationships
  • Develop and manage relationships with insurance market representatives
  • Review and analyze client needs to determine appropriate product and desired terms and conditions for insurance/reinsurance coverage
  • Develop data and submission documentation for underwriters
  • Achieve production targets, reporting any material changes to the Managing Director
  • Ensure that accounts are serviced efficiently and professionally
  • Monitor existing book of business with a view to identifying any threats or weaknesses early to address and protect/retain the existing book
  • Demonstrate excellent technical knowledge and ability to communicate this to various audiences
  • Maintain up-to-date working knowledge of regulatory requirements
  • Enable and encourage interaction and collaboration with other divisional units
  • Adhere to company and regulatory policies, procedures together with mandatory training requirements
  • Adhere to financial reporting requirements including monthly phasing of income

Qualifications & Skills

  • RIBO licensed
  • CIP or CAIB an asset
  • 5 or more years of experience working in insurance is an asset
  • Strong knowledge of Property & Casualty insurance products, including Professional Liability, Commercial General Liability, All Risks Property, Cyber, Directors’ & Officers’ Liability and others
  • Proficient in MS Office Applications
  • Experience using Applied EPIC and Policy Works an asset
  • Interest in working directly with new and existing clients
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment

Additional Capabilities

  • Problem Solving, Documentation Skills, Listening, Phone Skills, Previous experience using Salesforce is preferred, Resolving Conflict, Analyzing Information , Multi-tasking, Working independently and collaboratively within a team.

  • 9:00 – 5:00 Monday to Friday
